Introduction

Why is DK moving to CC 2024?

  • To take advantage of new features/functionality and improve efficiency in the creation of content both for print and digital.
  • To provide us with current bug fixes.
  • To give DK access to updated security features.

When is DK moving to CC 2024?

DK is planning to move to CC 2024 on Monday 22nd April 2024. Communications will be sent out to all global offices from 24th January onwards.

All DK colleagues working on UK titles will upgrade to CC 2024 at the same time, so that they can continue to collaborate with each other.

What are the new features available?

Before the switchover

Do I need to do any preparation before the switchover day?

If you work in-house for DK, your local IT team will inform you if you do not have enough space on your hard drive to install CC 2024. If this is the case, you will need to clear space on your Mac and ensure your Trash is empty, otherwise there is a possibility that the installation of Adobe CC 2024 will fail.

Your local IT team will be in touch with instructions in advance of the upgrade.

If you are a freelancer, please refer to Adobe’s guidelines on system requirements for Adobe CC 2024 to ensure that you can continue to work on our files: https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/creative-cloud/system-requirements.html

I’ve created my own InDesign workspace settings and I want to keep these for
CC 2024? How do I do this?

If you work in-house for DK, your local IT team will ensure your InDesign workspace settings are copied over when they upgrade your applications.

If you use libraries, actions, brushes and scripts for any other applications apart from InDesign, these will NOT be copied over. You will need to export and save these and reload them again after the upgrade.

For Photoshop, if you have custom options for any of the following which you would like to keep, copy these files to your desktop prior to upgrading:

  • Actions Palette.psp
  • Brushes.psp
  • Contours.psp
  • CustomShapes.psp
  • Default Type Styles.psp
  • Gradients.psp
  • Patterns.psp
  • Styles.psp
  • Swatches.psp
  • ToolPresets.psp

These can be found here:

  • Mac: <Username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop <version> Settings

Move them to the new preference folder, once CC 2024 is installed.

If you have Illustrator settings or preferences you would like to keep, please contact CTS prior to upgrading.

If you work out-of-house, CC should copy your existing workspace and presets when it upgrades you. If it doesn’t, go to Edit > Migrate previous Local Settings. That will save you manually copying files.

Will I be able to use the plugins I used with CC 2022 in CC 2024?

You will need to check with the manufacturers of your plugins if you can continue using them with CC 2024, or if you need to upgrade those as well.

Switchover day

What will happen on that day?

Your local IT team will provide instructions on how to upgrade in advance of the upgrade date of Monday 22nd April 2024. Please follow the instructions and complete the upgrade on this date or as soon as possible thereafter.

After the switchover

I’m not sure if my applications have been upgraded, how can I check?

If you navigate to Finder > Applications > Adobe, you can see which versions you have installed on your Mac (InDesign 19x, Photoshop 25, Illustrator 28x).

If they have not been upgraded, you will not be able to open any files that have been created or already re-saved in InDesign CC 2024.

If this is the case, please contact IT so that they can push the upgrade out to you manually.

Is there anything I need to do after the launch date?

PUK colour settings and preferences for CC 2024 will be deployed automatically as part of the upgrade so you should not need to do this.

You may need to re-save your files before you run your Fuse tools. If you need to re-save a whole project folder to CC 2024, you can do this with the ‘Resaver’ tool available in Fuse.

Can I still access my fonts after moving to CC 2024?

Yes, if you work in-house for DK, you will continue to access fonts via Monotype Desktop App as you did before.

Can I carry on working on InDesign files in CC 2022 after DK moves to CC 2024?

No. InDesign files that are created or re-saved in CC 2024 will no longer open in CC 2022. Please do not re-save down InDesign files to CC 2022 using Interchange (.idml files) as we have found that it can adversely affect files.

What does this mean for titles that have started in CC 2022 (but not yet finished) before the switchover day?

Your title may have already started in CC 2022 before the switchover day. After that day, your files will automatically open in CC 2024 and will be upgraded when you save them.

When the book is finished, if the project contains both CC 2022 and CC 2024 files, your Production Editor will ensure all CC 2022 files have been updated to CC 2024 before they are archived.

If you need to run any Fuse scripts on the whole book/project, you will need to upgrade all the pages to CC 2024. This can be done by running the ‘Resaver’ tool available in Fuse, on the entire folder.

How does this affect older titles that are in archive and were published with CC 2022 or earlier versions?

Titles in older versions of InDesign can be opened and re-saved in CC 2024 with no problems that we are aware of.

If corrections or updates are needed, these pages will be updated in CC 2024. Co-edition publishers will need to upgrade to CC 2024 in order to take the title for the first time or to update it.

DK employees

Will I get any training on the new features in CC 2024?

For in-house staff, general online training on the new features is available via peoplenet. If you experience problems with logging in to use the site, please contact HR.

If you need help on how to use a new feature from CC 2024 on one of your projects, please contact the Creative Technical Support team (CTS). They are:

Non-DK employees

I’m a freelancer working for DK. What do I need to do?

If you are not yet a Creative Cloud subscriber, you will need to purchase a subscription to Creative Cloud from the switchover day.

You will need to check that your Mac meets the system requirements for installing and running the applications you need in CC 2024. Please note that you may have other applications (e.g. Microsoft Office) that may also need to be upgraded if you update your system.

https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/creative-cloud/system-requirements.html

If you already have a subscription to Creative Cloud, then on the DK switchover day, you need to stop using CC 2022 and download the equivalent applications you use in CC 2024. This means that if you started working on a DK title in CC 2022 before the switchover day, you will need to finish that title in CC 2024.

If you use any plugins, don’t forget to upgrade these as well.

I’m a freelancer and I work for several companies, and need to have other versions of CC on my Mac as well as CC 2024. What do I need to be aware of?

If you need to keep multiple versions of CC on your Mac, please be aware that if you double click on a file, by default, it will normally open in the latest version of CC.

If you need to continue to work on InDesign files in previous versions for other clients, you will need to open the files either from within the required version’s application, or by dragging files to the correct application icon on your desktop.
