Production editors, CTS and IT support roles

Production Editors

Production Editors look after print titles on the pub programme, have visibility of the schedules, ensure files are correct and are sent to the printer on time.

Go to the Production Editor on your title when:

  • you have technical workflow queries for both frontlist, backlist and translated titles (direct publishing)
  • you’re unsure which SourceReport checks you need to run and at which stage of the workflow
  • you need help troubleshooting issues arising from SourceReport or Exporter
  • you would like them to arrange a start-up meeting
  • you have a query about supplying files to printers or co-editions
  • you need someone to check wet proof/printed dummy/BLAD files
  • you need someone to assess what we hold in archive for reissues/special sales etc.
  • you need to arrange digitisation of missing hi-res and/or arrange rebuilds of backlist titles in InDesign
  • you have a query relating to schedules on your title
  • you have images that need to be sent out of house for cut-outs, shadows or retouching
  • you have a file management query on your title
  • you need to request files for correction to a backlist title (note that you should request files for sourcing without a Production Editor’s involvement)
  • you have a template ready to be spot-checked (along with completed checklist, SourceReport, Font Report & Font Checker)
  • you need to send CMYK and jacket PDFs out for proofing
  • you need CMYK and text PDFs to be made for your title

CTS (Creative Technical Support)

  • your outsourcer needs access to www.dkhandbook.com
  • your Adobe apps are not set up correctly (presets, preferences, colour profiles etc)
  • you need to review new creative software/services, to ensure they meet technical as well as creative requirements
  • you need to find new methods to simplify and streamline creative tasks
