Safety logos

Logo File Name:  SAFETY_UKCA.ai

Supporting Guidelines

  • Minimum 5mm high
  • Proportions of the logo may not be skewed, stretched or deformed in any way
  • Logo must be clear and legible.
  • Logo must be visible at point of sale.

The Logo will generally be black. It may also be used in other colourways (i.e. white, reversing out of the background), however to ensure legibility, it is important that the logo must contrast to the background.

The UKCA mark may only be used on products where there is a specific requirement to do so in the legislation. DK products with play value (board books, sticker books, touch and feel, pops etc) and with electronic components (such and sound a light books) should include the UKCA mark.

Where the product will ONLY be sold in the UK, then the UKCA mark replaces CE mark. However, the majority of DK products are exported to EU countries (including Ireland) and so will require BOTH the CE and the UKCA mark.

European Warning Marking Requirements

Products not suitable for children under the age of 3 years must clearly state that they are not suitable for this age group AND give a reason why.
Warning markings need to be easily and clearly visible. The Penguin UK Group (Penguin and DK) have agreed that warning markings will in future have the following design:

  • Warning wording should appear within a black framed box (ideal minimum weight is 1.5pt).
  • The box should be a minimum of 40mm wide and 16mm high.
  • The word warning must be in capitals and in bold.
  • Font must be clear and legible – a sans serif font with a minimum of 8pt is recommended.

The design can be altered – however it must remain clear and legible and must be approved by Production. If you are producing a large format product (ie over 301 x 252mm) the size of the warning box should be increased proportionately and must be approved by Production.

Remember – Consumers must be able to tell what age group a product is suitable for – and whether there are any hazards that they need to be aware of.
